Sunderland stun Chelsea 1-0 to boost Premier League survival hopes
Sunderland boosted their hopes of moving further away from the Premier League relegation zone after securing a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Chelsea at the Stadium of Light on Sunday.
Enzo Le Fee scored the decisive goal from the penalty spot after Chelsea defender Levi Colwill struggled to contain Sunderland striker Brian Brobbey, whose physical presence troubled the visitors’ defence.
The defeat was a setback for Chelsea, who struggled to break down a determined Sunderland side despite enjoying considerable possession, particularly in the second half.
Sunderland started brightly and created several opportunities, with Brobbey coming close to opening the scoring in the first half.
The hosts eventually took the lead through Le Fee, who confidently converted his penalty to put Sunderland ahead.
Chelsea attempted to respond but struggled to create meaningful attacking opportunities against Sunderland’s well-organised defence.
Despite controlling much of the possession after the break, the visitors failed to seriously test Sunderland goalkeeper Robin Roefs.

Chelsea goalkeeper Mike Penders kept his team in contention with an impressive save to deny Wilson Isidor in a one-on-one situation after the Sunderland forward broke through on goal.
Sunderland continued to threaten as the match approached its closing stages, with Isidor setting up Habib Diarra, whose effort narrowly missed the target.
Chelsea had a late opportunity to rescue a point when Danny Welbeck connected with a cross from Estevao, but his header sailed over the crossbar.
The visitors continued searching for an equaliser, but Sunderland defended resolutely to protect their advantage until the final whistle.
The victory represents a significant boost for Sunderland’s campaign as they seek to consolidate their Premier League position and distance themselves from the relegation battle.
For Chelsea, the defeat highlights their attacking struggles, with the visitors unable to translate their second-half possession into clear-cut scoring opportunities.
