Three students rescued as hostel collapses at Federal Polytechnic Oko [video]
Three students have been rescued after a students’ hostel collapsed at the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, in Anambra State, triggering an emergency response involving rescue officials and local residents.
The incident, which caused panic within the institution and surrounding community, saw emergency responders working alongside residents to pull the trapped students from the debris. All three victims were successfully rescued, although the extent of their injuries was not immediately disclosed.
Authorities have since launched an assessment of the damaged structure while investigations are underway to determine the cause of the collapse.
Officials are also evaluating the safety of nearby buildings to prevent further incidents, as concerned students and residents await the outcome of the investigation.
The management of the institution and relevant emergency agencies are yet to issue a comprehensive statement on the incident.
