UBTH CMD pays tribute to late Deaconess Angel, visits Pastor Chris Oyakhilome family (VIDEO)
The Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), Prof. Idia Ize-Iyamu, has led members of the hospital’s management team on a condolence visit to the family of Pastor Chris Oyakhilome following the passing of his mother, Deaconess Angel Oyakhilome, at the age of 88.
The delegation visited the Oyakhilome family in Benin City on Friday, October 2, 2026, where Ize-Iyamu described the death of the family matriarch as “heaven’s gain.”
The UBTH CMD described the late Deaconess Angel, popularly known as “Big Mummy,” as a devout Christian and a woman whose life had a profound impact on her family and community.
According to her, the deceased lived a fulfilled life, reaching an advanced age and witnessing the growth of her children and grandchildren.

“Mama has gone to be with Jesus. She lived a good life. She lived to see her children and grandchildren. On behalf of the UBTH, please accept our condolences and extend our heartfelt condolences to Pastor Chris Oyakhilome,” Ize-Iyamu said.
The CMD signed the condolence register and presented a formal letter of condolence to the bereaved family on behalf of the hospital.
Receiving the UBTH delegation, the eldest daughter of the deceased, Pastor B. Akhuemokhan, expressed appreciation for the hospital management’s visit. Her message was delivered by Pastor Henry Amenkhienan.
The delegation included the UBTH Director of Administration, Jim Uwadiae, Esq.; Dr. Philip Osho, Deputy Chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee (Clinicals); Prof. Dumebi Kayoma, Head of Corporate Services; Mr. Abure Pedro, Head of Transport; Mr. Iyore Clement, among others.
Deaconess Angel Oyakhilome was born on March 6, 1938, and died on the morning of Friday, September 25, 2026, aged 88
