Uganda appoints Michael Atingi-Ego as New Central Bank Governor
Michael Atingi-Ego’s appointment as Governor of the Bank of Uganda follows his leadership as the acting head since the death of long-serving Governor Emmanuel Tumusiime-Mutebile in 2022.
Uganda’s President, Yoweri Museveni, has appointed Michael Atingi-Ego as the new Governor of the Bank of Uganda.
The appointment was confirmed by Presidency spokesperson, Sandor Walusimbi, on Monday in Nairobi.
Atingi-Ego, who has a long history with the central bank, previously held senior roles at the institution before leaving. He returned in 2020 as the Deputy Governor.
He has served as the acting head of the Bank of Uganda since the death of the long-serving Governor, Emmanuel Tumusiime-Mutebile, in 2022.
Atingi-Ego’s appointment as the new Governor is seen as a continuation of his leadership during a challenging period for the country’s financial sector.
