Welfare of troops paramount – Ambassador Sheni
By OKOSUN DENNIS
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Defence, Ambassador Danjuma Sheni has reiterated that the welfare of troops remains paramount and all necessary due process would be followed to achieve this.
While on a courtesy visit to the Chief of Defence Staff, General Gabriel Olonisakin, at the Defence Headquarters, Abuja, Ambassador Sheni explained that he was in the Defence Headquarters to boost the morale of the military personnel and to get acquitted with the CDS and the Principal Staff Officers.
He explained that the defence is a very important ministry as far as national security is concerned and the troops’ sacrifice in the on-going war against insurgency remains praise-worthy. He then pledged an unflinching support to Defence Headquarters and its operations.
Responding, General Olonisakin lauded the Ministry on its efforts to motivate the troops through welfare package. He, therefore, used the occasion to further solicit for more and better accommodation for service personnel. He also urged the Ministry of Defence to specially look into the troops’ welfare through the actualization of life assurance and other packages for them.
