Chad threatens to withdraw from multinational security force amid insurgent attacks
Chad’s President Mahamat Idriss Deby has threatened to withdraw from the Multinational Joint Task Force due to its failure to effectively address insurgent violence, following a recent attack that killed 40 Chadian soldiers.
Chad’s interim President, Mahamat Idriss Deby, has announced the possibility of withdrawing the country from the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) due to its perceived failure to effectively combat insurgent groups in the Lake Chad region.
This announcement comes in the wake of a deadly attack by suspected Boko Haram militants that resulted in the deaths of around 40 Chadian soldiers.
During a visit to the region, Deby criticized the lack of cooperation and joint efforts among the member countries of the MNJTF, which includes Nigeria, Niger, and Cameroon.
He expressed disappointment over the operational stagnation of the task force, which was created to pool resources and intelligence against common threats in the area.

Chad’s armed forces are regarded as some of the most effective in the region, and their potential withdrawal would significantly impact the MNJTF’s capabilities.
The Lake Chad region has long been a hotspot for insurgency, with groups like Boko Haram and the Islamic State’s West Africa affiliate launching frequent attacks.
