A fresh talk is going on in the political circle in Osun State and it has to do with the emergence of Senator Iyiola Omisore as the national secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and what the future looks like for Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola in Osun State politics, National Daily gathered.

Omisore, a former deputy governor of Osun State, picked the top job in the ruling party through consensus arrangement with the backing of Governor Gboyega Oyetola and national leader of APC Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

This was against the wish of former Governor Aregbesola who currently serves in the government of President Muhammadu Buhari, information pieced together further revealed.

Aregbesola, who ruled Osun State for two terms of eight years (2010 – 2018), is having a running battle with reelection seeking governor Oyetola – the man who previously served in his administration as Chief of Staff and later succeeded him.

Asiwaju Tinubu, a national leader of the APC, is a major contender for the office of the President of Nigeria ahead of the 2023 election.

The general elections, according to Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), are scheduled to hold between February 25, and March 11, 2023.

Asiwaju Tinubu – the governor of Lagos State from 1999 to 2007 – actually did the magic, but behind the scene, that gifted Omisore the powerful position, an insider disclosed.

Check revealed that Mr. Omisore’s new position has become a great headache for the minister in charge of the ministry of interior, who recently went all out against Asiwaju Tinubu, the man he served in his cabinet as commissioner for works for eight years while he was the governor of Lagos State.

And the reason for Aregbesola’s fear is straightforward, Omisore’s new status has transformed him better positioned in the scheme of things as far as Ife/Ijesa senatorial district is concerned.

Aregbesola and Omisore are both from Ife/Ijesa senatorial district.

The development, information has it, is a case of things playing out the way Governor Oyetola had wanted them.

“He (Governor Oyetola) has always wanted a situation where his predecessor’s influence would be whittled down… I’m sure you are aware of what befell during the APC gubernatorial primary where his favoured candidate was roundly beaten… he’s been dealt a deadly blow once with Omisore from the same district as him picking a party’s powerful position”, a source explained.
