Why Senator Abdullahi Adamu may not win APC chairmanship
The APC chairmanship race has become so intense. It will all end on 26 March when the national convention of the party holds. Mr. Abdullahi Adamu, a member of the Senate from Nassarawa State may no be able to win the convention. There are strong indications to show for this.
He is among the latest to join the race for the seat of the national chairman of the political party. Note that it has not been affirmed that President Muhammadu Buhari did promise Mr. Adamu any endorsement. Even if he had the endorsement, he may still not win the poll.
The first and most convincing reason is that there is now a call to make a Christian the national chairman of the party. Of course, a Christian left the seat. Mr. Adams Oshiomhole is a Christian and he helped to balance the sharing of power in the political party.
The president, Muhammadu Buhari is a Muslim likewise the Senate President Ahmed Lawan. Even the current caretaker committee chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Mai Mala Buni is a Muslim as well. The APC governors may decide to back a Christian.
Normally, Mr. Abdullahi Adamu ought to enjoy the support of Nassarawa State governor Abdullahi Sule. The governor is now confused. There are two aspirants from the state and the two of them need his support.
Mr. Tanko Al-Makura is also contesting and neither has stepped down. That means each of them will fight alone. There won’t be ny home support for either of the two men. As a result of this, Senator Abdullahi Adamu May not win that convention.
Lastly, there is no consensus yet. There ought to be a synergy among all the stakeholders in the party ahead of the national convention. The APC has been able to allocate seats to the six geopolitical zones in the country.
But the APC has not been able to specifically choose a consensus candidate ahead of the national convention. The Peoples Democratic Party didn’t allow its own October 2021 convention cause division. Mr. Iyorchia Ayu was adopted as the chairman and he was elected in the convention.
If Senator Abdullahi Adamu goes to poll without any specific endorsement from the state governors, he may not be able to defeat the other aspirants for the national chairman seat.
