Wike, Keyamo agree on N825.8bn compensation to Abuja indigenes for 4.2km runway
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, at a negotiation with the Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, on Tuesday, agreed on N825.819 billion compensation to indigenes of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, to acquire their land for the construction of the 4.2km second runway at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

The negotiation meeting included officials of both ministries, and representatives of their agencies and stakeholders from Jiwa, the affected community in Abuja. Wike, thereafter, announced that the Federal Government will pay N825.819 billion compensation to indigenes of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, to acquire their land for the construction of the 4.2km second runway at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

Wike clarified that the N825.8 billion compensation is to incentivize the residents to vacate the community and seek their cooperation towards the completion of the 4.2 km second Abuja runway project, which contract was awarded in 2022.
Wike also disclosed that the FCT Administration will construct a 5km bridge in the Tunga Madaki community and provide modern health care facility to serve as a temporary resettlement site for the indigenes.
The Minister promised that the approved fund will be released from on Wednesday, urging contractors to resume work immediately.
