Wike slams PDP over suspension of Fayose, summon of Ortom
Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has slammed the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over the suspension of former Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti State for anti-party activities. The governor asserted that if there is anybody to suspend, the PDP National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, is the one to be suspended for refusing to obey the PDP constitution on zoning of political positions. Wike declared that the PDP NWC does not have the power to suspend Fayose.
The Rivers governor further contended the PDP NWC does not have the power to summon Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State before the party’s disciplinary committee on charges of anti-party activities. Wike declared that Ortom “will not appear before any so-called disciplinary committee.”
He maintained that Ayu has just begun “the mother of all political wars”.
The PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, had in a statement, disclosed the suspension Fayose, former President of the Senate, Anyim Pius Anyim; Prof Dennis Ityavyar; and Aslam Aliyu from the party for “anti-party activities”, effect from Thursday, March 23, 2023
Governor Wike leads the PDP Group of five governors, known as PDP G5, in demanding th resignation of Ayu as national chairman, and subsequently, worked against the PDP presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, Atiku Abubakar. Other G5 governors include Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State, and Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State.
