Former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s pet project–the Coalition for Nigeria–is in full swing, and will soon be launched by January 31, at a venue yet to be named in Abuja.
As the promoters get into auto drive, the bustle and hustle of the political movement spawned out of the open letter he wrote President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday, will be coordinated by Osun former Gov. Olagunsoye Oyinlola.
While Oyinlola, a retired general known for his loyalty to Obasanjo, serves as the national coordinators, there will be spokespersons appointed at all levels.
“Mr. Oyinlola is now acting as the national spokesman; such roles would be appointed at all levels, including state, senatorial zones, down to ward level,” a source close to the secretariat was quoted as saying by the Premium Times which broke the story.
Aso Rock kas responded to the open criticism of Buhari’s government, appreciating Obasajo’s concerns, and pointing to him how much the administration has performed, and how the former president may not have observed this because of his globe-trotting.
However, mixed reactions have trailed the letter.
While the PDP said Obasanjo’s letter was patriotic, and an indication the APC has nothing to offer, ot however rejected the alternative he floated.
“It would amount to repeating the same blunder that brought in the ideologically vacuous APC and the Buhari Presidency which has now wreaked havoc on the nation in its almost three years of governance”.
Others criticised the former president for his holier-than-thou character, and obsession with the public space as an elder statesman.
