2 friends steal together, jailed together for N2.6m property fraud.
An Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun on Tuesday sentenced Ayinla Yusuf, 41, and Murisiku Abolade,60, to 18 months imprisonment for or N2.6million property fraud.
The police charged Yusuf and Abolade with two counts of obtaining money under false pretences and thegt.
Delivering judgment, Magistrate A.O. Adeyemi, held that the prosecution proved its case beyond a reasonable which is the legal burden of proof required to affirm a conviction in a criminal case.
Adeyemi, however, gave the convicts an option to pay N10,000 fine.
Adeyemi also ordered the convicts to pay restitution of N2.6 million to the complainant, Nofisat Olajide.
Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Insp E.O. Adaraloye told the court that the convicts committed the offence in January 2019 at Iyana Ilogbo area in Ota.
Adaraloye said that the convicts collected N2.6 million from Olajide to help her sale a property/
He said that the convicts converted the money to their personal use.
The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of sections 390 and 516 of the Criminal Code,Laws of Ogun,2006.
