2023 Presidency: Here are 3 things that may likely happen if Jonathan joins presidential race
The question of whether the former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has the legal right to run for president is out of the way as he has the right. According to the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999, the president is entitled to a 8 year maximum term. As it stands, the former President has only served for one term.
There have been calls for the former President, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan to join the presidential race for the coming elections in the country. There were rumours that he may likely join the race under the platform of the All Progressive Congress, but up until now, the former President is yet to make any announcement concerning his choice.
This could be to the fact that he has seen a lot of politicians showed interest in the race especially under the All Progressive Congress. As a man who loves peace, this possibly could be a good reason for him not to run. However, should in case he chooses to run, here 3 likely things that may happen.
1. If he decides to join the presidential race under the All Progressive Congress, he’s not likely to win the ticket. This is because he will just be a new member of the party. The leader of the party, Ahmed Tinubu will likely have an upper hand over the former President.
2. Another thing that may likely happen is that if peradventure he wins the presidential ticket of the All Progressive Congress, it will be a difficult task for the former President to go against his former political party, the Peoples Democratic Party. The election may turn against the All Progressive Congress.
3. The third and last thing that may happen is that the former President will retire from partisan politics. This may likely be his final call at political matters. Many have suggested that the former President retires and become an elder statesman giving advice and direction to the younger generation.
