2023 Presidential Race: Why Wike and Peter Obi may lose PDP ticket to Northern consensus candidate
Ahead of the 2023 Presidential Election, Its no longer a news that Prominent Politicians from the South and Northern Regions are aspiring to emerge as the Flagbearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
However, the recent meeting between a Former Military Head of State, General Ibrahim Babangida and Some Northern Aspirants including a Former Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki; Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed; Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal in a bid to present a consensus candidate from the North.
The move to present a consensus candidate from the North could affect the chances of the Southern Region which parade Prominent Aspirants including a Former Governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi and Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State among others.
Although, Wike and Obi are perceived to be top contenders but the recent development could affect their chances because the emergence of Northern Consensus Candidate ‘ll give the Region an edge to produce the PDP Presidential Ticket due to it’s huge voting strength. Northerners ‘ll support a Candidate while Wike, Obi and others ‘ll split the votes of Southern Delegates.
