3 Medical conditions that can be caused by eating cow skin (Ponmo)
Cowskin as the name implies is the common and cheapest type of meat in the market and almost everybody can afford it. A lot of people love consuming it because they think it’s healthy for the body. Though one could derive some important health benefits from eating cowskin, the side effects of this meat are higher than the benefits.
Cowhide is the natural, unbleached skin and hair of a cow. It retains the original coloring of the animal. Cowhides are a product of the food industry from cattle. Cowhide is frequently processed and they are used for commercial purposes. Over the years, there are lots of controversies concerning ponmo. In this article, I will be educating you on three medical conditions that can be caused by eating cowskin. Some of them include the following.
Kidney and Liver Damage
According to a study, scientifically, ponmo does not have any nutritional value to human health “In fact, you shouldn’t consume ponmo in the sense that some of the animals killed and used for ponmo have skin diseases.
The process is associated with chemicals that are generally stored in the tissues of animals that are fed with feed made with industrial animal hides and will eventually end up in humans when consumed, with the attendant effects.
Formaldehyde is a highly toxic systemic poison that is absorbed well by inhalation. The vapor is a severe respiratory tract and skin irritant and may cause dizziness or suffocation.
Some ponmo traders saturate their ponmo in Formalin to heighten the thickness and size so they would make more profit. This chemical is very dangerous when it begins to build up in the body because it can drastically damage the kidney and liver.
Cancer
The abnormal growth of cells in the body is what is termed “cancer” some of the substances most cowskin traders use in processing their meat contain harmful chemicals which can, in turn, affect the body.
When roasting cow skin, things such as tires, dustbin composite, as well as other particles, are added to the fire. This in turn activates Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs) which exposes a person to a great risk of cancer.
Colorectal disease
Colorectal disease is one of the most popular diseases that many people are suffering from. Researches have shown that there is a link between consumption of cow skin and increased risk of colon disease and cancer. This is mainly due to the method of preparation.
