5 foods women should eat during pregnancy
Maintaining a healthy diet during pregnancy is very important. This is because during pregnancy, the baby in the womb needs enough nutrients to be able to develop well. The woman also needs as much nutrients as she can get because she is harbouring a baby inside of her and she is not only eating for herself, but for her developing baby too.
Eating foods that don’t contain important nutrients could grossly affect the baby’s growth and development, so you need to eat foods that are richly packed with nutrients. Here are some highly nutritious foods you should eat when you are pregnant.
1. Sweet potatoes.
Sweet potatoes contain beta-carotene which the body converts to vitamin A. Vitamin A is important for the growth and differentiation of cells of the foetus. This should be eaten more during the earlier stages of pregnancy.
2. Eggs
Eggs are full of nutrients and they could greatly increase your overall nutrient intake. They also contain a compound called choline which is very essential for brain development.
3. Legumes
Legumes are great sources of fibre, foliate and many other important nutrients. Folate is a very important nutrient which may reduce the risk of some birth defects and diseases that the baby could develop.
4. Dairy products
Dairy products like yoghurt, milk and cheese are a great choice for pregnant women. They provide the proteins and calcium that you and your baby needs. They also contain probiotics which could also reduce the risk of complications.
5. Avocados
Avocados are highly rich in potassium, fibre, folate and mono unsaturated fats. These nutrients may greatly help improve foetal health and leg cramps which may be common in some pregnant women.
