4 medicinal values of bitter kola to your body you might not know
Bitter kola has been used in traditional African medicine for centuries, and is considered to have many beneficial properties, including being able to help fight bacterial and viral infections. Bitter kola, also known as bitter cola or Garcinia Kola, is a plant found in Central and Western Africa that has long been valued for its medicinal properties.
Although traditional African medicine uses all parts of the Bitter Kola plant, the seeds are mostly commonly eaten. In this article, we shall be looking at some medicinal values of bitter cola to our body.
1. It helps with weight loss.
Bitter kola is known for being a natural hunger suppressant and a great thirst stimulant, and as such helps to reduce weight loss, as a reduced intake of food and a large intake of water is needed by the body to get rid of excess fat and stay healthy.
2. Help manage diabetes.
The high levels of potassium in bitter kola may be a contributing factor in reducing inflammation. Early studies suggest that a chemical called kolaviron, which is found in bitter kola, may protect against hypoglycemia in people with type 2 diabetes. kola seeds lowers blood glucose levels and improves the complications of diabetes mellitus.
3. Cold and fever remedy.
According to scientists, chemical constituents in bitter kola have anti-malarial properties. Additionally, the stem, bark, and seeds of bitter kola are used to treat acute fever, inflammation of the respiratory tract and throat infections. Bitter kola has been shown to be effective in soothing fever, sore throat, congestions and symptoms of cold and cough. The anti-bacterial properties of the plant help in relieving from worsening of such general but irksome problems.
4. Boost your immune system.
Bitter kola has a high amount of antioxidant. This high amount of antioxidants found in bitter kola helps your body to increase its immunity level. When the immunity level of the body is increased, it becomes strong enough to fight against any foreign contaminant.
