Coronavirus: FG shuts down universities, polys, secondary, primary schools
The Federal Government has ordered immediate shut down of universities and other tertiary institutions, including secondary and primary schools across Nigeria as one of the measures to prevent the spread of the deadly coronavirus. In the country.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Sonny Echono issued a statement to this effect on Thursday, on behalf of the Education Minister, Adamu Adamu. He ordered that all the 104 Unity Schools in the country should proceed on vacation on or before the 26th of March 2020.
The Minister directed all Principals of Unity Colleges to speed up the on-going second term examinations and proceed on vacation till further notice.
“We have directed all higher institutions to close this weekend. Unity Schools that have completed their exams are to close immediately.
“Others are to hurry and close the latest on 26th March,” the Ministry directed.
The Education Minister further directed the management of all Unity Colleges immediately effect the necessary emergency procedures and processes such as the provision of alcohol based sanitizers, and hand washing facilities, among others, for protection and prevention of infection. He maintained that students should strictly adhere to the principles and best practices of good hygiene.
Adamu Adamu also directed the Principals to immediately report any suspicious case to the nearest health authorities, emphasizing that nothing should be taken for granted at this delicate time of the global pandemic.
