Fallout of maximum force school authorizes to quell female students’ protest at UNIMAID
Having warned the students of the University of Maiduguri against upsetting the peace of the campus, the school management quickly dispatched the varsity security to mow down a growing protest by female students.
A video is trending on social media now, showing how security operatives clamped down on the protesting women on Monday.
No fewer than 30 have been arrested and detained so far.
Those protesters were demanding a downward review of their tuition fee, and improvement of the campus living condition.
What the rally yielded, between Monday and Tuesday, were arrests, detention, and disruption of their living quarters, and worse, in time to come.
Responding, Prof A. M. Gimba, Dean Students Affairs, said the school had earlier warned that the management would deal decisively with anybody who tries to breach the peace on campus.
Gimba said those arrested were not students of the institution but troublemakers who came to destabilize the school.
