Buhari presents 2022 budget at NASS Thursday
President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday indicated readiness to present the 2022 budget proposal on Thursday to a joint session of the National Assembly comprising the Senate and House of Representatives.
Deputy President of the Senate, Ovie Omo-Agege, presiding over senate plenary on Tuesday in the absence of the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, notified the federal lawmakers of the communication from the president. He had earlier told the senators that President Buhari has submitted the revised 2022-2024 Medium Term Expenditure Framework MTEF and Fiscal Strategy Paper (FSP).
The president, he said, had in a letter to the Senate, requested the senators to approve the planning documents, indicated as a document that would form the basis and assumptions in the 2022 budget proposal.
The review was said to accommodate the new fiscal terms after the enactment of the Petroleum Industry Act and the 2022 Appropriation Bill.
The President indicated that the revision will reflect funds for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to prepare for the 2023 general elections; as well as provisions for hazard allowance for health workers, wage adjustment for workers, and funds for the population and housing census in 2022.
