NCC commissions e-Health project in Ondo to revolutionize healthcare delivery through ICT
In a significant move to digitize Nigeria’s healthcare sector, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has officially commissioned an e-Health project at the State Specialist Hospital in Akure, Ondo State.
The initiative, driven by the strategic integration of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) into healthcare, is designed to transform medical service delivery, improve patient care, and streamline hospital operations across the country.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Dr. Aminu Maida, Executive Vice Chairman of the NCC, described the project as a reflection of the Commission’s dedication to fostering innovation, digital research, and sustainable growth within Nigeria’s expanding digital economy.
“This project is more than just a technological upgrade. It is a bold step towards equitable healthcare access for all Nigerians, irrespective of location,” Maida said.
“By embedding ICT into our health systems, we are laying the foundation for more accurate diagnoses, faster treatments, and improved patient outcomes.”

The e-Health system enables seamless electronic management of patient records, real-time communication among healthcare professionals, and greater operational efficiency.
It is expected to significantly reduce delays in care delivery and enhance the overall experience for both medical staff and patients.
Dr. Maida also highlighted that the project’s impact will extend beyond the hospital to the wider community, encouraging other health institutions across the country to adopt similar digital health solutions.
He commended all stakeholders and partners whose collaboration made the project a success and reiterated the NCC’s readiness to support initiatives that leverage technology for national development.
Now fully commissioned, the State Specialist Hospital in Akure is equipped with cutting-edge tools to deliver more timely, accurate, and coordinated care—ultimately contributing to a healthier population and setting a standard for future health-tech collaborations across Nigeria.
