Knowledge is power they say. When you are well informed you are better informed and well equipped. I read of a comment that was directed to me that half information is dangerous. I agree with the person 101%. Half information can be very destructive.
Information is an important asset/weapon we need in this 21st century so that we don’t repeat the mistakes of those who were before us !
Back to the question of the day , how do we care for our ice fish before we cook it?
Before I go on I want to apologize to one or two people here I pulled out their pot of fish so that I will use it for illustration. Those people should please not be offended am sorry for using your photo or your post. I meant no harm, Trust me.
Now back to our discussion. Ignorance has killed 😭😭😭many people in this life and ignorance they say is a diseases still it is concluded that ignorance is not an excuse.
Most of us are ignorant about how ice fish is being preserved during importation and after.
We are here to educate, teach and admonish one another.
Listen to this 👇🏿
Some Ice fish are preserved with a chemical called formalin. This formalin is used to preserve dead bodies in the mortuaries so that the dead body won’t spoil, now if this chemical is used on dead bodies and is also used on the fish you are eating do you still believe it is safe for you to eat it with out proper washing? I don’t mean germs because fire can kill germs. The poison in this chemical can not die under heat but it can be removed.
WHY SHOULD WE TAKE SPECIAL CARE IN WASHING ICE FISH
1) To remove formalin/ toxic from the fish because it is very dangerous to health. It can cause terminal disease like cancer which can lead to death.
2) To restore the original taste 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻 of the fish marred by the chemical ( Formalin)
3) To make our ice fish healthy for human consumption.
THREE WAYS TO REMOVE TOXIC FROM THE FISH
1) Soak it in a warm water in the interval of 45 minutes and 1hour. Then wash with salt warm or hot water
2) Use lemon or lime juice to wash the ice fish to remove that poisonous chemical away.
3) Wash with white vinegars
NOTE
Those who have used hot water to wash their fish you will agree with me that once you pour the hot water the colour will change, you will also observe some whitish substance that forms layers
After washing it and cook you will notice that your fish has a different taste and smell that is nice and healthy.
Hot water has one disadvantage, it can scatter the fish if caution is not taken. So why pouring the hot water, take precaution.
ATTENTION !!
Please this post is not to cause any unnecessary panic. Is not all the fish that is affected anyways but to be on safe side, wash thoroughly that’s all, because you may not have what you can use to dictate the fish preserved with formalin.
The chemical can be removed by water so no panic. The aim and the objective of the post is to notify you, so that you treat your fish carefully. No panic please.
