Flood victims to get monthly salary in Yobe

Flood victims are set to receive monthly salary and food stuffs in Yobe State, the Executive Secretary of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Dr Muhammed Goje, has disclosed.

SEMA said the number of beneficiaries are 13,000 flood victims who will in a period of five months receive N33,000 monthly.

Goje disclosed this at the collaboration meeting with Save the Children International and Yobe Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (YOCHMA), on Thursday, August 18, 2022 in Damaturu, the Yobe State capital.

According to him: “Save the Children has agreed to provide a cash stimulus support of N33,000 monthly, for a period of five months to 1300 affected flood victims in Gujba and Gulani local government areas.

“Other non food items will be provided to another 1,300 victims across other flood affected communities”, Goje said.

The YOCHMA Director of Programmes, Alhaji Suleiman Dauda, proposed to the stakeholders at the meeting an Installment premium payment plan of N3,000 monthly for a period of four months for every victim.

Earlier in his remarks, Alhaji Bulama Bukar, member representing Gujba constituency in the State House of Assembly appreciated the gesture and reaffirmed the support of his people.

Recall that on Monday, August 8, 2022, flood occasioned by a heavy downpour  killed three persons with four others sustaining injuries across Yobe State.

The affected LGs in the disaster are Damaturu, Yunusari, Fika, Geidam, Karasuwa, Jakusko, Yusufari, Bade, Potiskum as well as Nangere.

According to SEMA the worst affected locations in early August included Bulajaji where 58 households were affected and Jebuwa with 34 households with 3 deaths recorded in Maimalari and Jebuwa wards respectively of Yusufari LGA.

Also on Sunday July 24, 2022, SEMA reported that flood ravaged 59 communities in 11 LGAs of the State.

Governor Mai Mala Buni however, reacting to the incidents in accordance with SEMA statutory mandates, commenced activities necessary for effective mitigation, victims’ support and recovery.

Bumi, while promising to assist the victims said the operational tasks will be multi-jurisdictional, multi-sectoral, multi-disciplinary and multi-resource which will be driven and coordinated by SEMA on behalf of the Yobe State Government.
