Manchester City risks expulsion from multiple competitions amid financial probe
Manchester City could face expulsion from more than just the Premier League if they are found guilty of the numerous financial breaches they are accused of.
The club’s troubles could extend to the FA Cup, Carabao Cup, and even the Champions League and Club World Cup.
The ongoing investigation, dubbed the ‘Trial of the Century,’ involves up to 130 charges against City. Premier League rivals argue that a mere points deduction would be insufficient if the charges are substantiated.
They believe that the potential expulsion of City from the Premier League would be an appropriate response, but such a move would create significant disruption in English football.
According to the FA Cup rules, specifically Clause 31, a club removed from its league could be expelled from the competition. Similarly, the EFL Cup’s regulations define eligible participants as members of the Premier League or English Football League, potentially putting City’s participation at risk.

The rules for the Champions League and FIFA’s expanded Club World Cup are less clear.
UEFA mandates a club license for European competitions, and while it’s uncertain if domestic league expulsion affects this, the situation could complicate City’s ability to compete in these tournaments if they face a significant gap in competitive play.
City, who won the Champions League last season and qualified for the Club World Cup, are currently maintaining their innocence, claiming they have “a comprehensive body of irrefutable evidence” to disprove the charges.
As the investigation unfolds, the implications for Manchester City and English football remain substantial, with rival clubs and fans closely watching the developments.
