Nasarawa State Government distributes relief materials to 900 IDPs

Nasarawa State Government says it has distributed relief materials to 900 internally displaced persons in three camps located at Giza, Kadarko, and Agyaragu to cushion the effect of hardship.

Mr. Zachary Allumaga, Director General of Nasarawa State Emergency Management Agency disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Friday in Lafia.

Allumaga listed items distributed to include mattresses, mosquito nets, blankets, towels, mats, buckets, kitchen utensils, children’s and men’s wear, wrappers, children’s shoes, and sanitary pads.

Others are diapers, detergents, seasoning cubes, tin tomatoes, salts, bags of rice, bags of beans, bags of maize, sorghum, millet, and gallons of vegetable oil.

According to him, 900 adult females and males were displaced in two local government areas and parts of Lafia local government following the recent attack by herders in the state.

Allumaga described the attack which involved mostly Tiv farmers and Fulani herders as an act of criminality and conspiracy.

The director general said gov Abdullahi Sule had visited the three camps to personally sympathize with the IDPs where food and non-food relief materials were distributed to the victims to cushion the effect of hardship on them.

Allumaga warned both farmers and herders to desist from taking the law into their hands but rather report their grievances to the appropriate authorities, noting that crises were not palatable ventures.

“I think people should have learned a lesson by now, if they have not, we are now telling them to please not to engage in crises because you will lose your comfort zone,” he said.
