Man United finally push for a new goaltender as Inter Milan respond
Manchester United have finally pushed for a new goalkeeper with an opening bid for Inter Milan’s Andre Onana established.
Meanwhile, the report reaching National Daily reveals that the Red Devils have seen their attempt rejected by the Serie A giants.
It is understood that United have placed a bid of around £34.4m, with bonuses that could have taken the deal to around £38.5m.
However, National Daily gathered from the claim by renowned Italian journalist, Gianluca Di Marzio that this is below Inter Milan’s asking price of £44m.
The 27-year-old Onana is believed to have emerged as Erik ten Hag’s first choice to replace David De Gea, who is a free agent after his contract expired on July 1st.
Though United are reported to remain in talks with the De Gea over a new deal at the club, it however remains unlikely that the Spaniard will agree new terms.
National Daily understands that United will be able to free up significant funds on their wage bill with De Gea’s exit being their highest earner on £375,000-a-week.
The Red Devils however will need to increase their bid for Onana if they truly want to bring the Cameroonian to Old Trafford especially as Inter would want the matter resolved within a fortnight.
It therefore means that United will have to raise significant funds through player sales to augment their balance £65m left their budget to secure their transfer targets of a goalkeeper and a top striker in the window after completing the Mason Mount’s £55m transfer from Chelsea.
Ten Hag who is desperate to sign a new centre forward will listen to offers for Dean Henderson, Harry Maguire, Alex Telles, Donny van de Beek, Eric Bailly, Anthony Elanga, Fred and Anthony Martial in order to raise funds.
