Football enthusiasts in Nigeria have overwhelmingly voted for two-time Africa Cup of Nations winning coach Hervé Renard to take over the vacant Super Eagles coaching job.

Renard emerged as the preferred choice following the exit of Finidi George in June.

The French coach garnered significant support from fans and readers who participated in a poll to determine their preferred candidate for the position.

Renard secured 67% of the votes, outshining Swedish coach Janne Andersson, who received 19%.

The decision to appoint a foreign coach for the Super Eagles came after the team’s disappointing performances, including a shock defeat to Benin Republic in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

Renard’s extensive experience coaching African national teams, including Zambia, Angola, Morocco, and Ivory Coast, made him a popular choice among fans.

While there were some who favored the return of an indigenous coach, Renard‘s impressive track record and proven ability to lead African teams to success swayed many in his favor.

His expertise and experience in African football make him a strong candidate to revitalize the Super Eagles and restore their winning form.
