Troost-Ekong explains Saudi Arabia move
Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong has revealed that he couldn’t resist the lucrative offer from Al-Kholood in the Saudi Pro League, National Daily Newspaper gathered.
The defender, who had recently won the Greek Super League title with PAOK Salonika, made the surprising decision to leave Europe for the Middle East
In an interview with the Counter Attack Podcast, Troost-Ekong explained that the decision was influenced by a combination of factors.
He admitted that he wasn’t initially considering a move to Saudi Arabia before the Africa Cup of Nations but was swayed by the growing interest from clubs in the region.
The 31-year-old emphasized that the financial aspect of the offer was a significant factor in his decision.
He stated, “I got an offer I couldn’t turn down. I am 31, now I have to think about the big picture.”

Troost-Ekong also expressed his belief in the competitiveness of the Saudi Pro League, highlighting the presence of world-class players like Karim Benzema, N’Golo Kante, and Fabinho.
He added that the opportunity to secure his future and provide for his family was another important consideration.
The Nigerian international joins a growing list of Super Eagles players who have made the move to Saudi Arabia, including Odion Ighalo and Ahmed Musa.
His decision to join Al-Kholood marks the end of his European adventure, but it signals a new chapter in his career.
