Alleged identity fraud: South Africa to cancel Miss Chidinma Adetshina, mother’s IDs

South Africa’s Department of Home Affairs has revealed plans to cancel the identity and travel documents of former Miss South Africa finalist, Chidimma Adetshina, and her mother, Anabela Rungo, who was born in Mozambique due to alleaged identity fraud allegation.

The decision follows the Adetshinas’ failure to respond to a Monday deadline to explain why their South African documents should not be canceled. The duo have been embroiled in an alleged identity fraud scandal which forced the now Miss Universe Nigeria to withdraw from the Miss South Africa pageant.

Home Affairs Director-General Tommy Makhode announced on Tuesday that the decision has been made to cancel the identification cards and travel documents belonging to the couple involved in this case according to Yfm. This action reflects the department’s ongoing commitment to address irregularities and ensure the integrity of identification processes. Additionally, the department communicated to the portfolio committee on home affairs in Parliament that this situation has now been handed over to the Hawks, which is the law enforcement agency dedicated to investigating serious crimes. The Hawks may pursue charges against the two individuals, potentially accusing them of committing fraud, which emphasizes the seriousness of the allegations they are facing.

Furthermore, Makhode shared that officials from the department took the initiative to visit a residence that is registered under the name Adetshina. The purpose of this visit was to locate her mother, but unfortunately, the officials were unable to find anyone at the address. This visit highlights the efforts being made by the Home Affairs department to track down individuals involved with this case and ensure that the investigation progresses effectively.
