Police arrest four in gun-running syndicate linked to slain Delta musician

The Delta State Police Command has arrested four suspected members of an interstate arms trafficking syndicate allegedly connected to the firearm recovered from Oghenemine Ogidi, an upcoming musician who was shot dead by a police officer in April.

Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, disclosed the development on Monday, June 8, 2026, during a media briefing in Asaba, saying the arrests followed a coordinated intelligence-led operation spanning Bayelsa and Imo states.

According to him, the operation dismantled a wider tracking and supply network linked to the illegal movement of the weapon, which has become central to investigations into the incident that sparked nationwide outrage.

The case gained public attention after a viral video showed Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Nuhu Usman allegedly shooting the 28-year-old musician, who performed under the stage name “OG Million,” along the Warri–Sapele Expressway in Effurun on April 26.

Ogidi had reportedly insisted before his death that he was only delivering a waybill package and was unaware it contained a Beretta pistol. The officer involved has since been arrested, dismissed from service, and transferred to Force Headquarters in Abuja for prosecution.

Police said the arrests were made after investigators traced the firearm through a chain of transactions involving multiple suspects across different states.

Emmanuel Chukwuemeka was arrested in Bayelsa State on May 4 after allegedly confessing to purchasing the pistol for ₦290,000 from an intermediary and reselling it for ₦380,000 to another suspect still at large.

That suspect, identified as “Desmond,” is alleged to have received the weapon and concealed it in a waybill package, which was then handed to Ogidi for onward delivery.

Further investigations led operatives to Amadi Princewill, arrested in Imo State on May 15, who allegedly admitted to sourcing the weapon earlier in the supply chain for ₦200,000. Another suspect, Amadi Felix Chibuike, was also arrested in Owerri on May 16 and identified as the primary supplier.

CP Oyeniyi said preliminary findings linked the suspects to the outlawed Black Axe confraternity, noting that efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the network, including the fleeing suspect known as Desmond.

He added that the suspects would be charged to court upon completion of investigations, stressing that the command remains committed to transparency and accountability in both the arms trafficking probe and the related police misconduct case.
