Breaking:Brighton shocks Arsenal 3-0 as Gunners’ perfect start comes crashing down
Brighton & Hove Albion produced a stunning performance at the Amex Stadium on Saturday, defeating reigning Premier League champions Arsenal 3-0 to hand Mikel Arteta’s side a major setback in their title defence.
The result was particularly significant given Arsenal’s impressive start to the campaign. The Gunners had won their opening four league matches and entered the encounter with a perfect record across all competitions.
Brighton, however, showed little respect for Arsenal’s early-season form, taking control of the contest and punishing the visitors with three goals.
Pascal Groß opened the scoring in the 31st minute, giving Brighton the breakthrough they had been seeking.
The Seagulls then doubled their advantage through Charalampos Kostoulas just before half-time, leaving Arsenal facing a two-goal deficit at the interval.
Brighton continued their dominance after the restart, with Chema Andrés adding a third goal in the 57th minute to complete a remarkable 3-0 scoreline.
The defeat represents a dramatic reversal for Arsenal, who had conceded just one goal in their opening four Premier League matches and had been regarded as one of the strongest defensive sides in the competition.
For Brighton manager Fabian Hürzeler, the victory capped an impressive run of results.
The Seagulls had already recorded a 5-0 league victory over Coventry City and a 3-2 comeback win against Manchester United in the Carabao Cup before facing Arsenal.
The victory also came as Brighton celebrated the club’s 125th anniversary, making the emphatic result an especially memorable occasion for the home supporters.
Arsenal will now have to regroup during the international break, with the heavy defeat raising questions about their ability to maintain the momentum that had carried them to the top of the Premier League standings.
For Brighton, meanwhile, the 3-0 triumph provides another statement result and strengthens the impression that Hürzeler’s side can compete with some of the division’s leading teams
