Lagos Badminton ready to host International Classic

The board of the Lagos State Badminton Association has completed all its arrangements and is set to host the 5th edition of the Lagos International Badminton Classics, National Daily learnt.
The competition will hold at the Molade Okoya Thomas Hall, Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere-Lagos from Wednesday 24th to Saturday the 27th of July, 2019.
National Daily learnt that the competition remains the highest ranked Badminton Championship in Africa. And with the prize money set at $25,000 USD, a total of 34 (Thirty-four) countries including Nigeria have registered for the 2019 edition.
Israel, Spain, Vietnam, Malaysia, Russia, Azerbaijan, Austria, Canada, Hungary, Belgium, Poland, Turkey, Czech Republic, Italy, India, Portugal, Iceland, Switzerland, USA, New Zealand, Australia, Slovakia, Egypt, Ghana, Togo, Wales, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Iran, Uganda, Pakistan, Germany and Thailand have all confirmed their participation.
Players will compete in the men and women singles and doubles. There will also be room for mixed doubles.
The Lagos State government remains the main sponsor of the competition. However, contributions will also come from cooperate Nigeria.
Chairman of Lagos State Badminton Association, Onome Obruthe told our reporter that the government of Lagos State have made all arrangements to ensure a successful organisation of the Classics.
He also disclosed that the hosts, Lagos State, have many dependable players who will do Nigeria proud in the competition.
