Atiku wins in Katsina, Buhari’s home
The Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, emerged winner of the Saturday presidential election in Katsina State, the home of President Muhammadu Buhari.
Result of the presidential election announced by the INEC Returning Officer of Katsina State, Professor Mua’zu Abubakar Gusau, Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Gusau, at the INEC Presidential Election Collation Centre in Katsina, showed that Abubakar had a total of 489,045 votes, defeating the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, who had 482,283 votes. The candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Rabiu Kwankwaso, had 69,386 votes, while Labour Party candidate, Peter Obi, had 6,376 votes.
PDP won 13 of the 34 local government areas, while APC won 21 LGAs. PDP, however, won majority votes in the state.
The total number of registered voters in the state is 3,516,719, however, 1,097,663 were accredited to vote on the election day.
The INEC Returning Officer disclosed that elections were cancelled in some polling units in Baure, Danmusa, Dutsinma, Funtua, Kafur, Kankara, Katsina, Kurfi, Kusada, Mai’adua, Malumfashi, Mashi, Sabuwa and Safana LGAs due to thuggery, insecurity, resistance, violence or over voting and obstruction.
