BREAKING: Tragedy as World record holder is murdered
It is a tragic moment for the sporting world as Kenyan’s Agnes Jebet Tirop who had just set a new women-only 10km world record last month in Germany, crossing the line in 30:01 is murdered.
It was heartbreaking to find the 25-year-old who was also a two-time World Championship bronze medalist stabbed to death in her home in Kenya.
Tirop won bronze medals at the 2017 and 2019 World Championships in the 10,000m.
Chairperson of Athletics Kenya in the Nairobi Region, Barnaba Korir, confirmed the tragic news of the incident which occurred in Iten, Elgeyo Marakwet County.
Tirop while recently breaking and setting a new women-only 10km world record in Germany when she crossed the line in 30:01 had said: ‘I am so happy to break the world record. The pace was tough but I felt my body was responding well.
Little did she know that she was running for the last time.
