Broda Shaggi reveals trauma, career fears after stray bullet injury

Nigerian comedian and actor Samuel Perry, popularly known as Broda Shaggi, has recounted the emotional and physical trauma he experienced after a stray bullet injury forced him away from work for several months.

The entertainer, in a video shared on his official Instagram page on Wednesday night, disclosed that he was shot on March 9, 2026, while filming a comedy skit under the Sango-Ota bridge in Ogun State during a brand activation assignment.

Describing the incident as a day he wished had never happened, Shaggi recalled the fear and uncertainty that followed the shooting as he struggled with the injury and waited for medical attention.

“I was totally unconscious till I got to the hospital. So, I didn’t even know how we got to the hospital. But one thing I could remember was me praying till we got to the first hospital where first aid was administered,” he said.

The comedian said he was overwhelmed by the sight of blood and desperately wanted reassurance from medical personnel that he would survive.

“A lot was happening at the same time. I was sweating. I was holding my leg, you know, I was seeing blood and all I wanted to hear was a doctor or a nurse telling me, ‘Samuel, you’ll be fine,’” he added.

Beyond the immediate physical pain, Shaggi said the injury raised concerns about his career, particularly because dancing and physical performances are central to his comedy.

He explained that he had maintained a demanding work schedule since 2018, balancing scriptwriting, filming, music production and frequent travels for professional engagements.

“Since 2018 till date I never rest. It’s always back to back. If I’m not writing I’m shooting. If I’m not shooting, I’m in the studio making music. If I’m not making music, I’m travelling for something,” he said.

The prolonged absence from the entertainment scene left him worried that fans might forget him while he concentrated on recovering from the injury.

Shaggi initially underwent surgery in Nigeria but was subsequently advised to pursue further treatment and physiotherapy.

After about four months, he travelled to Dubai for another operation, which he said significantly improved his condition.

According to the comedian, his recovery progressed rapidly after the procedure. He was able to stand with support on the second day and walk with crutches on the third day.

Reflecting on the circumstances of the shooting, Shaggi expressed gratitude that the bullet had not struck a more vital part of his body.

“It was a stray bullet and it came this way to my hip. What if it had come this way and hit my head or hit any vital organ?” he asked.

Providing an update on his condition, the entertainer disclosed that he could now stand without crutches, although he still relied on them for additional support while walking.

He recalled that there was a time when he could neither move without two crutches nor place his injured leg on the ground.

“I couldn’t even put my leg on the floor, you know. But now I can walk. I can stand alone without crutches, but I still have to support with the crutches,” he said.

Expressing gratitude for surviving the ordeal, Shaggi described his recovery as a second chance at life and thanked fans for their continued support.

He also assured his followers that he had exciting projects lined up as he gradually returns to work.

“I’m grateful to be alive. It’s second chance. You should also be grateful to have Shaggy back on your screen because right now I’m coming with exciting projects,” he said.

The comedian’s disclosure offers a glimpse into the challenges he faced during his recovery, as he works towards regaining full mobility and returning to the screen.
