China denies providing arms to Russia
China has denied providing arms to Russia in the ongoing special military operations in Ukraine by Russian forces. The Ambassador of China to the U.S., Qin Gang, in an interview on CBS protested: “There is disinformation about China providing military assistance to Russia. We reject that.”
Ambassador Qin Gang, however, asserted that “what China is doing is sending food, medicine, sleeping bags, and baby formula, not weapons and ammunition to any party.”
The ambassador maintained that China is continuing to “promote peace talks and urge immediate cease-fire.” Ambassador Qin Gang remarked that the sort of public condemnation instigated by the West “doesn’t help,” the situation.
“We need reason. We need courage. And we need good diplomacy,” he declared.
China has ignored pressures from the U.S., U.K., and other European countries to condemn Russia’s military operations in Ukraine.
President Joe Biden U.S. had threatened the Chinese President, Xi Jinping, that there would be “consequences” if China provides material assistance to Russia in prosecuting the war in Ukraine.
The Foreign Ministry of China had earlier declared that the West must respect the security concerns of Russia.
The British Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, had on Sunday lured China to join the West in condemning Russia over the military operations in Ukraine.
Johnson had declared: “As time goes on, and as the number of Russian atrocities mounts up, I think it becomes steadily more difficult and politically embarrassing for people either actively or passively to condone Putin’s invasion.”
