Court remands man, 21, in correctional center over alleged armed robbery
An Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan, on Friday remanded a 21-year-old man, Lateef Ojo, in a correctional centre over alleged conspiracy and armed robbery.
Ojo, whose residential address was not provided, is being charged with conspiracy and armed robbery.
The Police Prosecutor, ASP Oluyemi Eyiaromi, told the court that Ojo committed the offences at about 1:30 p.m. on Oct. 19, at Odo-Ono Kekere Area, Ibadan.
Eyiaromi alleged that Ojo, and others now at large, armed themselves with knives and cutlasses to rob a resident, Olanleyin Aliyu.
He said that the defendant collected Aliyu’s cell phone valued at N70,000, a wrist watch worth N16,000 and the sum of N120,000.
The prosecutor said the offences contravened sections 6(b), 1(2) (a)(b) of the Robbery and Firearms Laws of Nigeria, 2004.
The Magistrate, Mrs S. I Babalola, did not take the defendant’s plea due to lack of jurisdiction.
Babalola directed that the case file should be returned to the Director of Public Prosecutions for legal advice.
The magistrate adjourned the case until Nov. 29 for further mention.
