D’Tigers edge Tunisia 84-81 in World Cup qualifiers
Nigeria’s senior men’s basketball team, D’Tigers, began their 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup African Qualifiers campaign on a winning note with an 84-81 victory over Tunisia in a Group C clash on Thursday in Luanda, Angola.
The victory marked a successful competitive debut for newly appointed head coach David Fizdale.

D’Tigers took the opening quarter 23-21 before Tunisia responded by winning the second 23-20 to leave the scores level at halftime.
Nigeria regained the advantage with a 21-19 third-quarter win and held off a late Tunisian fightback by claiming the final quarter 20-18 to seal the hard-fought victory.
The result boosts Nigeria’s hopes of qualifying for the 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup in Qatar.
D’Tigers will face Guinea on Friday before rounding off the qualifying window against Rwanda on Sunday, with victories in both matches expected to strengthen their qualification bid.
