Edo deputy governor’s office sealed off amid growing tensions with governor
On Sunday, September 29, 2024, the office of Edo State Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, located on Osadebe Avenue in Benin City, was sealed off by a heavy police presence.
Armed officers, including a machine gun-mounted police truck, were stationed at the entrance, effectively barring access to the office.
This development follows the earlier relocation of the deputy governor’s office from the Government House, a move that occurred during an ongoing standoff between Deputy Governor Shaibu and Governor Godwin Obaseki.

As of Sunday, the office gate remained closed, and reports suggest staff were directed to the John Odigie Oyegun Public Service Agency on Friday.
Additionally, vehicles from the deputy governor’s office, including the Press Crew bus, have been reassigned to the office of the Head of Service within the Government House, further indicating deepening tensions between the state’s top officials.
