Elections: I-G enhances operational capacity of police
The Inspector-General of Police (I-G), Mr Usman Baba, has enhanced the operational capacity of the Zamfara Police command through the deployment of additional manpower and operational vehicles for Saturday’s polls.
The logistics included: Non- letha; weapons, personnel protective equipment and anti-riot equipment ahead of March 18 Governorship and State House of Assembly elections in the state.
A statement issued in Gusau on Thursday by the spokesperson of the command, SP Muhammad Shehu quoted the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Kolo Yusuf, as disclosing the development.
Yusuf, while commending the I-G for his timely intervention to the command, called on the officers and men to redouble their efforts.
The CP said; “You should continue to work hard towards achieving the mandate of conducting credible, fair and hitch-free elections in the state.”
Yusuf also tasked Area Commanders, Tactical Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, all officers and men deployed for election security duty to be neutral.
He also urged them to be steadfast to ensure that the command consolidates on the successes recorded during the Presidential and National Assembly elections.
“The CP further charged the public to be law abiding and desist from any acts capable of causing unrest in the state.
“Let us continue to pray for peaceful conduct of the elections in the state and country in general”, Shehu quoted Yusuf as adding.
