FCSP condemns call for dissolution of NUP exco

The Federal Civil Service Pensioners (FCSP) branch leadership has firmly rejected a recent call from a group for the dissolution of the national executive of the Nigerian Union of Pensioners (NUP).

Mr. Fredrick Eguaoba, Chairman of FCSP, conveyed this stance in a statement released on Thursday in Abuja.

Eguaoba described the call, made by a group identifying itself as the Concerned Federal Civil Service Pensioners (FCSP), as entirely uncalled for. He lamented the unfortunate tendency of certain individuals to attempt to discredit others simply because they are no longer in positions of authority.

“Many of the aggrieved individuals had recently lost in the FCSP elections and are now wrongfully blaming the NUP for their defeat,” Eguaoba stated. “It is disheartening to see people dwell in delusion and try to derail union progress simply because they didn’t emerge victorious.”

He emphasized that both the FCSP leadership elections and the broader NUP process were conducted with full transparency, with representatives from the Ministry of Labour, Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), the Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD), and other relevant agencies present to oversee the proceedings.

Eguaoba urged members of the Concerned FCSP to set aside their grievances and rejoin the union’s efforts to contribute meaningfully to its development, rather than wasting valuable energy and resources on what he termed a “campaign fueled by cronyism.”

He pointed out that the upcoming NUP National Delegates Conference, scheduled for April 14th, offers a legitimate platform for any interested member to contest for leadership positions, rather than resorting to what he described as smear campaigns.

“Some of the very people now agitating were once members of the Caretaker Committee that supervised our election before it was dissolved,” Eguaoba noted. “We are not interested in joining issues with them.

Our advice is simple: stop expending your aged energy in fruitless battles. Be more useful to the union.”

Eguaoba called upon all members of the pension community and the general public to disregard the calls for the dissolution of a duly elected executive body.

He drew a parallel with national politics, stating, “People cannot continue to condemn every process they lose in.

This is exactly what plays out in national politics, once some people lose, they discredit the process.”

He concluded by urging all pensioners to focus on providing support to the leadership of the NUP, which he affirmed has worked tirelessly to maintain peace and unity across its various branches.
