Moro eviscerates Okowa: “You Sank PDP 2023 victory, Own Your Failure!”

Senate Minority Leader, Senator Abba Moro, has expressed disbelief over former Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa’s reported regret about accepting the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) vice-presidential slot in the 2023 elections. Moro berated Okowa for causing the defeat of the PDP in 2023, saying that his inability to deliver Delta State sanked PDP 2023 victory and should own up to his failure
Moro stated that Okowa actively sought and lobbied for the position and should now not distance himself from the electoral consequences.
Senator Moro asserted that Okowa was a misjudgment as the PDP’s vice-presidential candidate, contributing to the party’s loss in the 2023 elections. Responding to Okowa’s reported expression of regret, Moro described the former governor’s comments as “uncharitable.”
He emphasized that Okowa pursued the VP position and must now bear the responsibility for the outcome.
Moro recalled that some PDP members were dissatisfied with Okowa’s selection, believing others were more deserving and better positioned to help the party win.
He highlighted Okowa’s rise within the PDP, facilitated by the very platform he now seems to be disavowing.

Specifically, Moro questioned Okowa’s failure to secure Delta State for the PDP during the presidential election, noting significant gains by opposition parties despite Okowa being the sitting governor and a vice-presidential candidate.
He found it inexplicable that a sitting governor and VP candidate could not deliver his own state, especially with two out of three senators from the state being from opposition parties.
Looking ahead to the 2027 elections, Moro acknowledged the fluidity of the political landscape but affirmed the PDP’s deep-rooted loyalty across the country.
He noted the commitment of PDP state chairmen to rebuilding the party and expressed confidence in the party’s enduring brand.
