Fresh crisis in Imo, Deputy Speaker Impeached
The Imo State government has thrown into fresh crisis, leading to the impeachment of the Deputy Speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly, Amara Iwuanyanwu, on Tuesday.
The Imo State government deployed security operatives to the House of Assembly to shield the lawmakers from the anger of the people of the state while the deputy speaker was being impeached.
The lawmaker representing Orlu state constituency, Ekene Nnodim, was identified to have presented a resolution signed by 18 of the 27 lawmakers for the impeachment of the deputy speaker.
Meanwhile, the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Paul Emezim, presiding over the plenary, endorsed the impeachment of the deputy speaker, Iwuanyanwu.
The Assembly later on Tuesday, reversed the suspension of six members four months ago, endorsing their resumption of duties.
The lawmakers were said to be suspended by the Speaker, Emezim, in a controversial circumstance of “unparliamentary conduct”.
