Fulani herdsmen launch reprisal in Ekiti
Following the murder of a Fulani herdsman Babuga Dengi at Oke Ako, Ikole Ekiti, on Wednesday, some armed men believed to be herdsmen invaded Orin Ekiti and killed a pregnant woman Thursday.
She was said to be a Tiv woman whose community in Ekiti allegedly killed Dengi.
The assailants also injured several other people in the attack.
Ekiti Gov. Ayo Fayose had called a peace meeting early Thursday t douse the tension generated by the herdsman’s death.
But unknown to hum, the Fulani community were planning a reprisal that eventually led to the death of the pregnant woman said to be eight months gone.
According to Fayose, the herdsman was allegedly killed by members of the Tiv community farming in the area.
He however told a meeting of the Fulani and the Benue communities on Wednesday in Ado-Ekiti that no bloodshed should be entertained as the killer of the herdsman would be fished out and punished.
No fewer than 73 were buried last week in Benue after some rampaging Fulani herdsmen attacked two communities in the north-central state.
