Gov. Oyetola suffers another setback, Court annuls Osun LG election
Governor Gboyega Oyetola of Osun State has suffered another setback after the ‘tragedy’ of the witness disappointment at the governorship election tribunal, as the Federal High Court, Osogbo, annulled the local government election conducted by the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC) on October 15, 2022.
The suit was filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in Osun State, seeking to stop the Osun State SIEC from conducting the local government election at the time.
The presiding Judge of the Federal High Court, Osogbo, Justice Ayo-Nathaniel Emmanuel, in his judgement held that the conduct of the election contravened sections 29 and 32 of the Electoral Act, 2022. The judge, therefore, declared the election null and void, insisting that it was not conducted in compliance with the Electoral Act 2022.
The court, accordingly, directed that chairman and councillors elected into the local government areas of the state through the process should vacate office with immediate effect.
