Cooking gas (also known as LPG) is manufactured by refining crude oil from natural gas and sold to consumers in different quantities. Cooking gas is heavier than air because its high density is a hydrocarbon-based combustible gas.

In this article, I will explain how you can cook beans on a cooking gas cylinder using a little gas. Before I explain the concept behind cooking beans with cooking gas with a little gas, it is important to explain the principle behind cooking gas.

When you start using cooking gas, some of the pressure in the container is released. Some of the liquid LPG (Liquified Petroleum Gas) then reach boils to produce vapour. The Latent heat of vaporisation is required to convert the liquid to vapour. As the liquid boils, it draws the heat energy from its surroundings. That is why the cooking gas cylinder feels cold to touch and why, if there is a heavy off-take, water or ice may appear on the cooking gas cylinder. Anytime you stop using cooking gas, the pressure will return to the equilibrium value for the surrounding temperature.

The pressure of the cooking gas in the cooking gas container varies depending on the surrounding temperature. It is also much higher than is needed by the appliances that use it; it needs to be controlled to ensure a steady supply at constant pressure. This is done by the cooking gas regulator known as a knob, which limits the pressure to suit the appliance that is being fuelled.

The majority of people cooking beans with cooking gas do make common mistakes, they think that the more they increase the regulator (knob) of the cooking gas cylinder, the faster the beans get ready for family consumption. This is a wrong assumption. The assumption can’t work, it will rather waste the gas you purchased with a huge amount of money.

If you want to use a little gas when cooking beans on a 5kg cooking gas cylinder, always reduce the rate at which your cooking gas burner releases gas from the cooking gas container to the lowest level as soon as the water inside the pot reaches the boiling point. The boiling point of water can not exceed 373.2 Kelvin even if you try to increase your cooking gas cylinder burner to its highest level.

I have used this method to cook beans times without numbers and it worked for me perfectly. A little gas would be used if you try it, go and try it and thank me later.
