Ighodalo receives heroic welcome at Esan South East
Dr. Asue Ighodalo, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the September 21 governorship election in Edo State, received a rousing welcome from a large, enthusiastic crowd in his hometown of Ewhohimi, Esan South East Local Government Area.
Hosting local PDP leaders and elders at his country home, Ighodalo kicked off a full-day campaign tour, assuring the gathering that both he and his deputy would make their communities proud through meaningful development.
During the event, Hon. Peter Aguele, the former chairman of the council, praised the party’s unity but urged them to intensify efforts for the final stretch of the campaign.
Among the notable attendees were Sir Prince Lewis Osobase, former House of Representatives member, and former Cross River State Governor Liyel Imoke, who stressed the importance of electing Ighodalo, emphasizing that having a governor from their community would bring immense benefits. Imoke called on the crowd to defend their votes and be fully committed to canvassing support ahead of the election.

Ighodalo, visibly excited by the turnout, expressed confidence in securing 100% of votes from the community, promising that his victory would bring transformational changes to Ewhohimi, Ewatto, and Ewhossa.
He pointed to his friend, Senator Imoke, as a model of how a governorship can uplift a local community, likening his vision for Esan South East to Imoke’s impact on Cross River.
The campaign tour also saw Ighodalo pay homage to the Onojie of Ewatto Kingdom, His Royal Highness Osagie Ikhumwen 1, who gave his royal blessing. Ighodalo then met with women’s groups in Ubiaja, promising targeted policies to support widows and women.
The day ended in Ugboha, where another large crowd gathered, as local leaders rallied support for Ighodalo and the PDP.
Imoke once again emphasized the need to protect their votes, accusing the APC of planning to rig the election. He praised Ighodalo’s track record and called on voters to ensure Esan and Edo State are led by a governor with capacity and competence.
Ighodalo and his team continued to urge voters to turn out in large numbers, pledging that his administration would not disappoint, bringing pride and development to their communities.
