INEC demands N50bn budget, as NASS earlier approved N305bn for 2023 elections
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) at the budget defence in the Senate, demanded approval for N50 billion as 2023 budget of the commission, indicating an increase of N10 billion from the N40 billion 2022 budget. The N50 billion budget for 2023 was presented after the National Assembly had approved N305 billion for the 2023 general elections.
The INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yukubu, in a document presented during the commission’s budget defense in the Senate, indicated that N2.6 billion is allocated to off season elections in Kogi, Imo and Bayelsa states scheduled to hold on November 11, 2023.
The Chairman of the Senate Committee on INEC, Kabiru Gaya, promised that the committee will properly monitor the commission to ensure adequate preparation for the 2023 general elections.
