Lagos Police seal suspected adulterated alcohol factory in Badagry, arrest 48-year-old
The Lagos State Police Command has sealed a suspected illegal factory allegedly used for the production and packaging of adulterated alcoholic drinks in the Yafin area of Badagry, Lagos State.
The operation also led to the arrest of a 48-year-old man, identified by the police as Anaebo Emeka Hilary, at the premises.
The command said the operation followed credible information provided by members of the public about suspected criminal activities at the location.
According to a statement issued by the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, police operatives moved to the facility and discovered materials allegedly being used in the production and packaging of alcoholic beverages.
Among the items recovered were suspected adulterated alcoholic drinks, empty bottles, different wine labels and various production utensils.
The police subsequently sealed the facility, while Hilary was taken into custody for further investigation. The recovered items were also transferred to the police station for examination as the investigation continues.
The Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, CP Tijani Fatai, commended the operatives involved in the operation for their response to the information received.
Fatai also urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information to the police to assist efforts to prevent and combat suspected criminal activities across the state.
The command said the operation formed part of its intelligence-led efforts to tackle criminal activities in Lagos.
The arrest and seizure of the materials come as investigations continue into the alleged production and distribution of adulterated alcoholic drinks from the Badagry facility.
The police have not disclosed whether any of the recovered drinks had already entered the market or identified specific brands allegedly affected by the operation.
The suspect remains in police custody while further investigations are conducted.
