The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) has reiterated its commitment to conducting the 2025 Local Government elections in the state.
The Commission’s Chairman, retired Justice Bola Ighile, made the announcement on Thursday during a visit to the Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, Mr. Wasiu Adesina, in Ikorodu, Lagos.
Ighile emphasized that the commission would soon begin engaging with stakeholders to launch a comprehensive voter education campaign to encourage citizens to participate actively in the elections.
“We will organize orientation programs to educate the public, especially those who have relocated, on how to vote properly,” Ighile said.
“I urge the public to visit the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) portal to ensure that all necessary steps are taken before the election date. This will help them exercise their franchise on the day of the election.”
In response, Adesina expressed gratitude to Ighile and the LASIEC team for their preparations for the upcoming elections.
He assured that the Ikorodu Local Government had already set up mechanisms to ensure a smooth election process.
“I want to appreciate the commission for their preparation.
On our part, we have put adequate machinery in place for the elections.
Over time, Ikorodu LG, with its seven wards, has been known for safe, credible, and hitch-free election processes,” Adesina stated.
“My administration will leave no stone unturned to ensure that this legacy is maintained, and every electorate is given the opportunity to exercise their franchise.”

Adesina also urged all aspirants to approach the election with a spirit of sportsmanship and service to humanity, emphasizing that it should not be a “do or die affair.”
He encouraged residents who had not registered for their Permanent Voter Cards (PVC) to do so, adding that the council would provide mini buses to transport those living far from polling units to register and vote.
National Daily Newspaper reports that the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, inaugurated the new LASIEC Chairman and members, led by retired Justice Bola Ighile, on January 10.
The commission is currently embarking on a familiarization tour across all Local Government Areas and Local Council Development Areas in Lagos.
